DRC President Tshisekedi urged to address east human rights abuses and constitutional reform
Civil society representative Christopher Ngoy said detention conditions have improved since President Félix Tshisekedi took office, contrasting them with the harsher practices under former President Joseph Kabila. He stressed, however, that the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo remains a “blind spot” where summary executions, rapes and other violations persist, and noted that many security services have not been reformed.
Archbishop Ejiba Yamapia, leader of the Coalition citoyenne pour la nation, hailed a Kinshasa march that drew more than 60,000 participants despite a last‑minute venue change. He called the demonstration a success and reiterated the coalition’s demand for a constitutional referendum to let the people decide on constitutional revisions, including the issue of a possible third term for President Tshisekedi.
