Ebola response in DRC sees first survivor releases and continued health services

Ten patients who recovered from Ebola were discharged from the Nizi Ebola Treatment Centre in Ituri province. During the ceremony, military governor Gaby Kasongo praised the recoveries, urged survivors to resume normal life and called on communities to maintain hygiene and prevention measures.

At the same time, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced it is strengthening the Ebola response in South‑Kivu while keeping essential health services operational. MSF highlighted the need to continue malaria, cholera, measles, nutrition and sexual‑violence care amid ongoing conflict and displacement. Two new Ebola treatment centres are now active, and MSF maintains maternal, neonatal, paediatric and surgical care across multiple health zones, including Bukavu, Minova and Shabunda, where the case‑fatality rate has reached 25 %. A recent vaccination campaign in Kalehe immunised over 43,000 children.
