DRC government reports containment of M23 and Rwandan forces

The Congolese government has reported that the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) have successfully contained territorial expansion attempts by the M23 rebellion and the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) in North Kivu and South Kivu provinces.

During a Council of Ministers meeting, officials stated that enemy maneuvers aimed at occupying more territory have systematically failed due to the determination of loyalist forces. This update follows ongoing security instability in the North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri provinces.

Separately, Eugène Diomi Ndongala, leader of the Christian Democracy party, has issued a warning to President Félix Tshisekedi regarding potential political dialogues with the M23. Diomi argues that formally including the group in national political discussions could be viewed as a “disguised capitulation” and might expose the President to charges of high treason. He contends that such a move would grant institutional recognition to an armed rebellion acting as a proxy for a foreign power, thereby blurring the lines between military peace processes and internal political consultations.
