DRC Military Court Advances Trial of General Christian Tshiwewe and Senior Officers
The Haute Cour militaire held its second hearing on 25 June 2026 in the case against Auditeur général des FARDC and former army chief Christian Tshiwewe, along with nine other senior officers. The Democratic Republic of the Congo officially entered as a civil party, seeking damages for the harms it claims to have suffered. Lawyers for the state argued that the alleged offenses—including conspiracy, spreading false rumors, treason, violation of orders, desertion abroad, illegal possession of weapons, and incitement—had caused significant material and moral loss.
The hearing was brief and the court postponed further proceedings to 9 July 2026. Among the accused are former FARDC chief of staff Christian Tshiwewe, ex‑inspector general John Numbi, and other generals and colonels, as well as a civilian former director of a mineral‑certification agency. The trial underscores ongoing efforts to hold high‑ranking military officials accountable for alleged misconduct.
