DRC opposition C64 demands constitutional amendment withdrawal before dialogue
On 9 July 2026 in Kinshasa, the Coalition Article 64 (C64) announced it will not suspend civic actions or join a political dialogue unless President Félix Tshisekedi publicly abandons his proposed constitutional revision, which the coalition says divides the nation and threatens balkanisation. C64 also called for the release of political prisoners, an end to politically‑motivated prosecutions, respect for civil liberties and the rule of law. The coalition met with AU chair Évariste Ndayishimiye, who urged Congolese authorities to prioritise genuine, inclusive dialogue and national cohesion. The stance places pressure on the government ahead of any mediated talks.
