DRC security crisis discussed at COMESA summit and with Germany

During the 25th COMESA summit in Harare, Zimbabwe, Congolese Minister of Regional Integration Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi called on member states to address the security crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Representing President Félix Tshisekedi, Anzuluni argued that instability in the region hinders regional economic integration. He highlighted issues including civilian atrocities, forced displacements, and the looting of natural resources, which Congolese authorities attribute to Rwanda. The Minister advocated for the enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 2773 and the Washington peace agreement, specifically calling for the withdrawal of Rwandan troops.

In a separate diplomatic meeting in Kinshasa, DRC President Félix Tshisekedi met with German Deputy Foreign Minister Serap Güler. Germany reiterated its support for Congolese sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that Rwanda’s security concerns do not justify violations of international law. Güler expressed Germany's willingness to support diplomatic initiatives, suggesting potential neutral facilitation in collaboration with the United States and Qatar to foster dialogue. The discussions also covered strengthening bilateral cooperation in economy, culture, health, and technical support for combating Ebola.
