DRC youth groups meet to strengthen peace, security and referendum participation

In Bukavu, South Kivu, members of the Provincial Youth, Peace and Security (JPS) coalition gathered at the Mont Kahuzi Hotel for a monthly meeting. Representatives, including Tumaini la Afrika’s coordinator Elia Kamushera, discussed implementing UN Resolution 2250 and promoting political participation of young people across North and South Kivu. The session reviewed the coalition’s first‑half‑year achievements, adopted the previous meeting’s minutes and welcomed new member organisations, emphasizing continued collaboration for durable peace and civic engagement.

Meanwhile, in Kinshasa, the Network of Young Parliamentarians (RJP) opened a three‑day “Youth Consultation Framework” at the Hilton Hotel. Led by President Ron Roger Étienne Bimwala, the forum aims to create a permanent space for dialogue between the government and diverse youth constituencies on key national issues, notably the law governing future referendums. The initiative aligns with President Félix‑Antoine Tshisekedi’s call for youth involvement in democratic processes and seeks to institutionalise regular consultation and policy input from the country’s youthful majority.
