DRDO tests quantum-secured communications for military data

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested a Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) platform on the live network of the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) in Chandipur, Odisha.

The technology is designed to secure real-time telemetry and critical observations generated during artillery and armoured weapon testing. By using the principles of quantum mechanics, the QKD system allows two parties to generate a shared secret key via photons. Unlike traditional mathematical encryption, any attempt at eavesdropping disturbs the quantum state, allowing for the immediate detection of unauthorized access.

Developed under DRDO’s Microelectronic Devices, Computational Systems and Cyber Security (MCC) cluster in partnership with Taqbit Labs, the system aims to provide unconditional security for sensitive military data in increasingly network-centric defence environments.
