Dre Greenlaw fined by NFL following confrontation with Sean Payton

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been fined $11,941 by the NFL for taunting the Denver Broncos bench during a Week 4 matchup. The fine follows an incident where Greenlaw yelled at Broncos head coach Sean Payton during the game.

Following the 49ers' 24-14 victory, Greenlaw confronted Payton on the field, an interaction that required teammates to intervene. Greenlaw later explained that his outburst was fueled by perceived disrespect regarding his release from the Broncos. After signing a three-year contract with Denver prior to the 2025 season, Greenlaw was released after just one year. He expressed frustration that Payton did not personally inform him of the decision, stating that his agent was the one who delivered the news.

Despite the tension, Payton spoke positively of Greenlaw’s play and emotion following the game. Greenlaw, who returned to the 49ers on a one-year, $6 million deal, noted that he and Payton had rarely spoken since his departure from Denver.
