DreamWorks Animation releases Forgotten Island featuring Filipino culture

DreamWorks Animation has released Forgotten Island, a new animated feature directed by Joel Crawford and Januel P. Mercado. The film follows two childhood best friends, Jo (voiced by H. E. R.) and Raissa (voiced by Liza Soberano), who are transported through a mysterious portal to the fantastical island of Nakali.

Inspired by Philippine mythology and culture, the story explores themes of friendship, memory, and the transition to adulthood. The protagonists must navigate a world of magical creatures and face the threat of a Manananggal, all while discovering that returning home may require sacrificing their shared memories.

The production features a diverse cast including Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, and Manny Jacinto. The soundtrack, composed by Nathan Matthew David, incorporates Filipino musical influences and features artists such as BINI and SB19. Visually, the film utilizes a stylized aesthetic influenced by anime and 1990s animation styles.
