DreamWorks releases Forgotten Island featuring Filipino folklore

The new DreamWorks animated film, Forgotten Island, explores themes of friendship, memory, and identity through the lens of Filipino folklore. Directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the story follows two lifelong friends, Raissa (voiced by Liza Soberano) and Jo (voiced by H.E.R.), as they navigate their diverging paths in life.

The narrative centers on the duo's shared dream of visiting the mythical island of Nakali, a place tied to Jo's grandmother's past. The film utilizes a visually provocative animation style to depict elements of Philippine mythology, including the Manananggal, a winged demon protector.

Beyond its visual spectacle, the film examines how memories shape individual identity and the challenges of maintaining close bonds as life circumstances change. The plot involves a struggle against a villain named Batiba, who seeks to steal memories.
