Drechtsteden stakeholders coordinate regional accessibility during bridge maintenance
Entrepreneurs, local municipalities, and Rijkswaterstaat are collaborating to maintain accessibility in the Drechtsteden region during major infrastructure works. A recent meeting held on the closed Papendrechtsebrug highlighted the ongoing efforts to manage regional mobility.
The Papendrechtsebrug has been closed for six weeks for essential maintenance due to the age of the structure. While the region remains accessible through temporary ferry connections and increased use of trains and bicycles, officials noted that the return of school and commuter traffic poses a significant challenge. Recent incidents in the Noordtunnel and Drechttunnel have also highlighted the vulnerability of the local road network, with potential delays reaching up to 60 minutes during peak periods.
