Dresden advisory committee recommends design for Carolabrücke reconstruction
An advisory committee for the reconstruction of the Carolabrücke in Dresden has recommended a preferred design for the new bridge. The committee has advised the Dresden City Council to commission the planning team consisting of Leonhardt, Andrä und Partner Beratende Ingenieure VBI AG (LAP) and Knight Architects.
The decision was narrow, with 14 members voting for the LAP and Knight Architects proposal, while 12 members voted for the design by FHECOR Deutschland GmbH and TSSB Planungsgesellschaft. Notably, the FHECOR and TSSB design was the favorite in a public online vote involving over 25,800 citizens.
The City Council is scheduled to vote on the proposal on September 3. If approved, the selected planning team will move into the next phase, with construction currently projected to begin in May 2028.
