Dresden and Düsseldorf move forward with major bridge projects

In Dresden, a public online poll of roughly 900 participants showed the city‑planned Carolabrücke design by Grassl/gmp leading with 40.7% support, ahead of proposals from FHECOR/TSSB, LAP/Knight and Schüssler‑Plan. The final decision will be taken by the city council after the official citizen‑participation results are presented at a press conference on 7 August.

In Düsseldorf, planners are evaluating options for a new south‑bridge to replace the deteriorating Josef‑Kardinal‑Frings‑Brücke. Three concepts are under review – a simple beam bridge (estimated five‑year build), a cable‑stayed bridge (six years) and an arch bridge (seven years) – with the beam solution currently favoured. The project is expected to cost around €350 million, but a construction start date has not yet been set.
