Guardia Civil arrests driver in fatal hit-and-run of Spanish soldier

The Guardia Civil has arrested the driver of a van involved in a fatal hit-and-run on the A-4 highway near Carmona, Seville. The incident occurred on August 18 around 7:30 a.m., claiming the life of Efrén Carazo Fernández, a 29-year-old soldier from the Spanish Air Force.

Carazo was changing a flat tire on the shoulder of the road while traveling toward the Tablada military base when he was struck. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision without providing assistance.

Investigators from the Traffic Security Research Unit identified the vehicle, a white Ford Transit, by analyzing small debris found at the crash site. The vehicle was located with damages consistent with the accident, and the driver was confirmed to be behind the wheel at the time. The suspect faces judicial proceedings for charges of imprudent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.
