Fatal hit-and-run of Spanish soldier

Overview

On August 18, 2026, Efrén Carazo, a 29-year-old Spanish Air and Space Force soldier, was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the A-4 highway near Carmona, Seville. Carazo was struck by a van while stopped on the shoulder of the highway to change a tire while traveling to the Tablada military base.

Following an investigation by the Guardia Civil and the Traffic Investigation and Analysis Group (GIAT), authorities identified the vehicle as a white Ford Transit based on debris found at the scene. The driver of the van has since been arrested and faces charges of homicide through negligence and abandoning the scene of an accident.
