Bartın court sentences driver in fatal student accident
A court in Bartın has sentenced Furkan Turan Gülle to 4 years, 5 months, and 10 days in prison for the negligent homicide of Edanur Tatlıoğlu. Tatlıoğlu, a 23-year-old senior nursing student at Bartın University, was killed on October 23, 2025, when Gülle’s vehicle struck her while she was walking on the sidewalk toward a bus stop.
Investigations revealed that Gülle was driving under the influence of alcohol, with blood alcohol levels measured at 0.83 promil by police and 1.4 promil at the hospital. During the trial at the Bartın 1st High Criminal Court, Gülle expressed remorse, stating, “I did not commit the crime knowingly or intentionally. I am regretful.”
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the confiscation of Gülle’s driver’s license for 1 year and 6 months. Due to the time already served in detention and the ongoing appeals process, the court ruled for his release from custody.
