Drone attack hits oil tanker near Oman coast

A drone attack has struck an oil tanker near the coast of Oman in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that the vessel was hit by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the Sohar anchorage.

Local authorities are currently assisting in the evacuation of the ship's crew. At this stage, the full extent of the physical damage to the vessel and the potential environmental impact remain unknown. The UKMTO has advised all navigating vessels to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity while investigations continue.

This incident follows a period of heightened tension in the region, including reports from Iran regarding explosions on supertankers caused by naval mines, and a separate incident where the United States launched a projectile against a Panamanian cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz.
