Drone enters Romanian airspace and crashes in Tulcea County FAST-MOVING

A drone entered Romanian airspace on the night of August 19-20, 2026, following the detection of multiple aerial targets near the Ukrainian border. The Romanian Ministry of National Defence reported that radar systems first identified the targets at 02:23. In response, two Spanish F-18 fighter jets and a Romanian IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter were scrambled to monitor the situation.

The drone officially entered Romanian airspace at 03:21, approximately 13 kilometers east of Galați. By 03:24, the Romanian helicopter crew reported that the unmanned aircraft had crashed in an uninhabited area approximately 4 kilometers northeast of Grindu, in Tulcea County. The impact triggered a small fire that extinguished on its own.

Authorities issued a RO-Alert to the population in the affected area at 03:20. No casualties or material damage were reported following the incident. Military personnel were dispatched to the crash site to secure the perimeter and investigate the wreckage.
