Drone explosion at Romanian port amid Ukraine war tensions

A Ukrainian‑manufactured drone detonated near a Romanian port, prompting emergency response from local authorities. The prefect of Constanța County, Adrian‑Teodor Picoiu, said one of five Ukrainian drones exploded at the harbour while another was sighted over Ukrainian waters. Deputy interior minister Raed Arafat reported that the incident was first noted at around 06:00 local time and that the drone self‑detonated at 10:30 near the Romanian Maritime Rescue Agency (ARSVOM) facilities. The surrounding area was evacuated and two helicopters were deployed to search for additional unmanned aerial vehicles.

Romanian officials continue to monitor the situation, coordinating with maritime rescue services and conducting searches for any further drones that may pose a threat.
