Drone explosion at Romania's Constanta port linked to Ukraine and Russian interference

On 5 June 2026 a Ukrainian sea drone detonated in the Black Sea port of Constanta, Romania. The Ukrainian Navy said the unmanned vessel lost control after being seized by Russian electronic‑warfare measures, describing it as a "self‑destruction" incident. Romanian authorities reported the blast, discovered three additional sea drones nearby, and dispatched two helicopters to investigate potential further threats.

Romanian President Nicusor Dan blamed Russia, stating, "We do not accept the transfer of the war against Ukraine onto the Romanian people." The incident follows a pattern of drone incursions into Romanian territory, with 47 falls over four years and 12 this year. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that “the situation is moving towards escalation and greater tensions,” adding that Poland is preparing for possible developments.
