Black Sea coasts see rise in drone fragment discoveries
A series of drone-related incidents has been reported along the Black Sea coasts of Romania and Bulgaria. In the Romanian resort of Olimp, authorities evacuated tourists and established a 500-meter safety perimeter after a drone fragment containing explosives was discovered on the beach. The object was subsequently neutralized via a controlled detonation. This follows a separate discovery of a drone fragment near the Constanta Casino, which was found to contain no explosives.
In Bulgaria, Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov reported that several drones and fragments have been found along the coastline, including near Varna and Pomorie. Stoyanov stated that these are primarily Russian reconnaissance or decoy drones and do not carry munitions, though he urged citizens to maintain safety distances. Bulgarian naval forces have been active in securing and, in some cases, destroying these objects at sea.
The increase in such findings is linked to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and heightened aerial activity in the region. The Romanian Ministry of National Defence noted that 129 drones or fragments have fallen within its area of responsibility, the Danube Delta, or the Black Sea since the start of the war.
