Drone manufacturers Drone Volt and Drotek expand into defense sectors

French drone manufacturer Drone Volt has qualified as a supplier for Canada’s Defense Drone Initiative (DDI). The qualification, issued by the Air Procurement Directorate, covers three of the five program pillars: unmanned vehicles and systems, systems engineering and integration, and innovation and experimentation.

This status allows Drone Volt to bid on contracts intended for the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Coast Guard. The DDI aims to accelerate the development and production of unmanned autonomous systems with a specific focus on cybersecurity, supply chain security, and the protection of sensitive technologies.

In a separate development within the French sector, Drotek, a specialist in professional drones and swarm flight software, is expanding into the defense market. Through its new brand, Aterrion, the company will offer drone systems for reconnaissance, surveillance, training, and operational support, aiming to capitalize on increased military spending across Europe.
