Germany faces rising inflation and food industry revenue declines
Germany is experiencing economic shifts in both the energy and food sectors. In July 2026, the national inflation rate rose to 2.8 percent, up from 2.3 percent in June. This increase was primarily driven by rising energy costs, which rose 8.3 percent compared to the previous year. Simultaneously, the German food industry reported significant challenges in May 2026. According to the Bundesvereinigung der Deutschen Ernährungsindustrie (BVE), nominal revenues fell by 6.5 percent to 18.6 billion euros. This decline was marked by an 8.9 percent drop in export revenue, totaling 6.7 billion euros, and a 5.1 percent decrease in domestic revenue. Despite these financial losses, the industry saw a 4.7 percent increase in real production volume when adjusted for seasonal and calendar factors.
