Indonesia faces widespread drought and water scarcity

Multiple regions across Indonesia are facing severe drought conditions, prompting widespread emergency responses and water distribution efforts.

In Bali, the BPBD reports that 15 villages across Buleleng, Karangasem, Klungkung, and Jembrana are affected, impacting approximately 529 families. In Banjarnegara, Central Java, the BPBD has distributed over 5.5 million liters of water to 42 villages and seven sub-districts, serving over 29,000 people.

In West Java, Perum Jasa Tirta II is managing the Jatiluhur Reservoir, which is expected to provide 1.95 billion cubic meters of water for irrigation through late 2026, despite water levels dropping slightly below normal operating limits. Meanwhile, in Yogyakarta, the regional government is preparing a 15 billion IDR emergency fund to address potential long-term drought impacts.

Corporate and local law enforcement agencies are also assisting; PTPN I Regional 3 distributed 132,000 liters of water in Pemalang, and the Sanggau Police provided 3,000 liters to residents in Tanjung Kapuas to mitigate the effects of the dry season.
