Drought in Indonesia triggers water crises in Gorontalo and Banyumas

Severe drought conditions in Indonesia have led to widespread clean water crises across multiple regions.

In Gorontalo Province, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reports that 15,531 individuals across 6,100 families in three regencies are affected. The BPBD is intensifying the distribution of clean water, prioritizing villages with declining water sources and limited access. Local authorities emphasize that cross-sector collaboration is essential to maintaining services during the dry season.

In Banyumas Regency, Central Java, the drought has impacted 28,222 people across 37 villages in 14 districts. The Banyumas BPBD has conducted 233 water deliveries totaling 1,135,000 liters to meet basic community needs. Additionally, the drought has contributed to forest and land fires (karhutla) covering approximately 12,043 hectares across several areas, including Purwokerto Utara, Sokaraja, and Purwojati. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid burning waste to prevent further fire outbreaks.
