Drvar hosts consecration of St. Joseph Church and memorial visits
The town of Drvar marked a significant religious and historical milestone on October 17, 2026, with the consecration of the newly built St. Joseph parish church. The ceremony was led by Bishop Željko Majić of Banja Luka and attended by hundreds of believers, as well as high-ranking officials including Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and the President of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto.
The new church commemorates the 120th anniversary of the parish's founding and the 30th anniversary of the restoration of regular religious life in the area, following the destruction of the original church in 1949.
Simultaneously, the town saw interest in its historical landmarks, including the “25. maj 1944.” Memorial Complex. Visitors traveled to the site to view Tito’s Cave and other monuments related to the 1944 German operation aimed at capturing Josip Broz Tito. The memorial complex, which includes an ethnographic museum and Tito’s villa, was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2011.
