Consecration of St. Joseph Church in Drvar
Overview
The Catholic community in Drvar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, celebrated the consecration of the new St. Joseph Church. Led by Bishop Željko Majić of Banja Luka, the ceremony marked the 120th anniversary of the parish's founding and the 30th anniversary of the restoration of religious life in the region.
The new structure replaces a building destroyed in 1949, ending an 85-year period where the local community, consisting of approximately 300 to 500 Croats, had to hold services in community centers. The event was attended by hundreds of believers and high-ranking officials, including Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Borjana Krišto, the President of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In conjunction with the religious milestone, the town also saw interest in historical landmarks such as the ‘25. maj 1944.’ Memorial Complex, which contains Tito’s Cave and monuments related to the 1944 German operation to capture Josip Broz Tito.
