DSDS former contestants criticize casting show ahead of new season

Former contestants of the German casting show ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’ (DSDS) are speaking out against the format ahead of its 23rd season. Annemarie Eilfeld, who placed third in 2009, described her experience as having been ‘partially traumatized’ and advised aspiring singers against participating, stating it is not the right path for a serious career.

Other former participants, including Silvia Amaru, reported lasting damage to their public images due to how they were portrayed on screen. Additionally, 2007 winner Mark Medlock clarified that he was never close friends with jury head Dieter Bohlen, describing their relationship as strictly business.

In other entertainment news, singer Menowin Fröhlich, a recent DSDS winner, announced his departure from his record label due to a lack of professional support. Meanwhile, chef Johann Lafer provided a health update on his battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma during an appearance on ‘ZDF-Fernsehgarten’. Singer Beatrice Egli also shared an emotional story regarding her mother’s recovery from a serious accident during the ‘Giovanni Zarrella Show’.

At the Munich Oktoberfest, TV presenter Florian Silbereisen noted that the crowds are more manageable outside the festival tents. However, an Oktoberfest-themed episode of ‘ZDF-Fernsehgarten’ hosted by Andrea Kiewel drew criticism on social media following a segment involving simulated deer calls.
