DSI to issue third summons to Phuket MP Somchat over nominee share probe
Thailand's Minister of Justice, Pol. Lt. Gen. Rutthapol Naowarat, has announced that the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will issue a third summons to Somchat Techthaworncharoen, a People's Party MP for Phuket. The summons is related to an investigation into allegations of holding nominee shares in private companies alongside foreign nationals.
Authorities have noted suspicious activities, including the closure of several companies and the sale of land at prices significantly below market value. Investigators have also identified additional land plots in the northeastern region that are under scrutiny. The DSI is treating the matter with urgency to prevent the potential disposal of assets.
Mr. Somchat previously missed two scheduled appointments, citing a failure to receive mail for the first and requesting a postponement for the second. The third summons is scheduled for September 14. If the MP fails to appear, the DSI may proceed with legal action under Section 24 of the Department of Special Investigation Act regarding the defiance of summons.
