Investigation into Phuket MP nominee allegations

Somchat Techthaworncharoen, a People’s Party Member of Parliament for Phuket, has denied allegations that he acts as a nominee for foreign interests. In a letter to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), Techthaworncharoen stated the claims are “exaggerated and untrue,” asserting that his real estate and rental business is a legitimate livelihood.

Following these denials, the Minister of Justice announced that the DSI will issue a third summons to the MP regarding an investigation into nominee shares held alongside foreign nationals. Authorities have flagged suspicious activities, such as the closure of companies and the sale of land at prices significantly below market value. The DSI is also scrutinizing additional land plots in the northeastern region and intends to proceed with the investigation urgently to prevent the disposal of assets.

After missing two previous appointments, Techthaworncharoen is scheduled for a third summons on September 14. Failure to appear may result in legal action under Section 24 of the Department of Special Investigation Act.
