Düsseldorf Airport traveler stung by venomous scorpion

A 52-year-old traveler was stung by a scorpion at Düsseldorf Airport after the creature hid inside her jacket. The woman, who was returning from a trip to the Mediterranean region, was stung while attempting to put the garment on.

Emergency services at the airport provided initial medical care. A reptile expert was called to the scene to identify the animal, which was determined to be a Leiurus quinquestriatus, also known as the Mediterranean yellow scorpion. This species is considered one of the most venomous scorpions in the world, possessing potent neurotoxins.

Following consultations between emergency doctors, a poison control center, and the reptile expert, the woman was transferred to a university clinic for further treatment and observation. The scorpion was captured and subsequently handed over to a local zoo.
