Scorpion sting incident at Düsseldorf Airport

Overview

A 52-year-old traveler was stung by a scorpion at Düsseldorf Airport after the creature was found hidden inside her jacket. The woman had recently returned from a trip to the Mediterranean region, specifically the Greek island of Kos.

Emergency services provided initial medical care at the airport. The woman described the sensation as being similar to a wasp sting and was eventually transferred to a university clinic for specialized treatment and observation.

A reptile specialist from the Düsseldorf Fire Department was called to the scene to locate and collect the animal. The scorpion was identified as a Leiurus quinquestriatus, also known as the Mediterranean yellow scorpion, which is noted for possessing potent neurotoxins. The animal was subsequently handed over to a local reptile park or zoo for safe housing.
