Düsseldorf trial begins for attempted murder of drug lord's nephew

A trial has commenced in Düsseldorf regarding a murder attempt on the 40-year-old nephew of Hüseyin B., a notorious drug lord often referred to as ‘Pablo Escobar of Europe’. The attack occurred on Kaiserstraße, where two men jumped from a vehicle and opened fire on the victim's taxi. Despite being struck by seven out of ten bullets, the victim survived following emergency surgery.

The trial is being conducted under heavy security, with the Regional Court relocating to the high-security wing of the Higher Regional Court. Hüseyin B. has been imprisoned in the Netherlands for approximately 28 years and was previously linked to billion-euro heroin trafficking and recorded murder orders. The victim had been observed by unknown parties while demonstrating for his uncle's release at the Dutch consulate in Düsseldorf on December 30, 2025.
