Düsseldorf attempted murder trial

Overview

A trial has commenced in Düsseldorf concerning an attempted murder targeting the 40-year-old nephew of Hüseyin B., a drug lord known as the ‘Pablo Escobar of Europe’. The attack occurred on December 30, 2025, when gunmen opened fire on a taxi in which the victim was traveling. Although struck by seven bullets, the victim survived after emergency surgery.

Prosecutors have charged a 39-year-old Syrian and a 22-year-old Turk with attempted murder, while a third individual faces charges of aiding and abetting. During the investigation, authorities seized an assault rifle and another firearm from the residence of the 22-year-old suspect.

The victim had recently been seen participating in a demonstration at the Dutch consulate in Düsseldorf to advocate for the release of his uncle, who has been imprisoned in the Netherlands for approximately 28 years.
