DSW health insurer announces record premium increase for 2027

Dutch health insurer DSW has announced that its basic insurance premium will rise by 14.75 euros per month for 2027, bringing the monthly cost to 173.25 euros. The company described this as the largest premium increase in its history.

DSW attributes the hike to rising healthcare demand and increased labor costs. The insurer also noted that a reduction in government budgets for areas such as district nursing, mental healthcare, and hospital care contributes to higher premiums. To mitigate the impact, DSW will use 25 million euros from its own reserves, sourced from positive investment results, to limit the increase. This reserve allows the company to keep premiums for supplementary insurance stable.

Historically, DSW's premiums have risen significantly; while the monthly premium was 108 euros in 2017, the upcoming increase represents a 60 percent rise over the last decade. While the mandatory deductible has remained at 385 euros since 2016, it is scheduled to rise to 400 euros in 2027.
