Dubai and Sharjah launch new infrastructure to reduce traffic
Major infrastructure projects in the United Arab Emirates are set to improve traffic flow between Dubai and Sharjah. In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a new 1,000-metre bridge. This two-lane connection links Sheikh Rashid Road to 2nd December Street, providing a direct route toward Al Satwa and Jumeirah. The bridge has a capacity of approximately 3,000 vehicles per hour and is intended to reduce congestion at the World Trade Centre Intersection.
Simultaneously, the first phase of the Al Taawun Tunnel project is nearing completion to ease travel between Sharjah and Dubai. The 500-metre underground tunnel beneath the Al Taawun Roundabout will connect Al Taawun Street directly to Al Nahda Bridge. Expected to open in November 2026, the project aims to reduce waiting times by up to 85 per cent. The tunnel will feature a signalised intersection capable of handling 4,200 vehicles per hour in each direction during peak periods.
