Dubai and Western Sydney advance major road infrastructure projects

Major infrastructure projects are advancing in Dubai and Western Sydney to address urban growth and traffic congestion.

In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the Oud Maitha and Al Asayel project. The development includes 14km of new roads, four bridges, and two tunnels spanning 4,300m. The upgrades are designed to increase the capacity of Oud Maitha Street by 50%, raising it from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour, while reducing journey times from 20 minutes to five minutes. The project serves residential and service areas including Za’abeel, Al Jaddaf, and Umm Hurair.

In Australia, five major road projects in Western Sydney totaling $3 billion have secured contracts. The upgrades, which include Mamre Road and Elizabeth Drive, will focus on widening lanes and improving intersections to support the region's growing population. Construction for most of these projects is expected to begin in late 2026. The Mamre Road and Elizabeth Drive projects are the largest, valued at $1 billion each.
