Dubai explores new port routes to bypass Strait of Hormuz

Dubai is considering radical infrastructure developments to mitigate risks posed by instability in the Strait of Hormuz. The city’s economic success relies heavily on the Jebel Ali port, which requires all maritime traffic to pass through the narrow strait. Due to escalating conflicts and disruptions to trade routes, authorities are exploring the possibility of building a new port on the opposite side of the United Arab Emirates, facing the Gulf of Oman, to create a more secure maritime gateway.

Beyond logistics, Dubai continues to see significant migration of high-net-worth individuals. In 2025, the UAE saw nearly 10,000 net migrants in this category, with most choosing Dubai. While tax advantages are often cited, many relocate seeking quality of life, stability, and opportunities for long-term legacy and business continuity amidst global geopolitical uncertainty.
