Dubai prepares for new school year as teachers return and retail sales launch

As the new academic year approaches in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai's private education sector is preparing for the return of students. More than 27,000 teachers are returning to work to finalize academic plans, review timetables, and prepare facilities. The teaching workforce in Dubai is notably diverse and female-dominated, with women comprising 78 percent of private-school educators. The largest nationality group among teachers is Indian, followed by British and Egyptian.

Educators are also identifying key professional priorities for the upcoming term, including addressing learning gaps, managing the impact of artificial intelligence in the classroom, and supporting student wellbeing.

Simultaneously, the retail sector is responding to the seasonal demand with significant back-to-school promotions. Major retailers in the UAE are offering discounts of up to 80 percent on essentials such as stationery, backpacks, and electronics. Some campaigns include scholarship draws and specialized offers on study furniture and technology.
