Dubai RTA completes Sheikh Zayed Road widening project

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a 2-kilometre widening project on Sheikh Zayed Road to alleviate traffic congestion. The project adds a new lane for motorists traveling from Abu Dhabi toward the World Trade Centre Interchange, increasing the total number of lanes in this section from six to seven.

The enhancement, located near the Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Metro Station, is expected to boost road capacity by 17% and reduce peak-hour journey times by up to 10%. This upgrade is part of broader efforts to improve connectivity along this major arterial route, which links key commercial, residential, and business districts including the Dubai International Financial Centre and the Museum of the Future.

This development follows the recent opening of a 1,000-metre, two-lane bridge at the World Trade Centre Roundabout. That bridge is designed to reduce travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from approximately six minutes to one minute.
