Dubai road infrastructure and traffic improvements
Overview
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented several infrastructure projects aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the city.
In late July, the RTA inaugurated a three-lane bridge as part of the Oud Metha-Al Asayel Streets Development Project. This bridge, which links Al Khail Road to Al Asayel Street, is expected to reduce travel times along the Sheikh Rashid Corridor from 20 minutes to approximately five minutes. The project has reached 90% completion, with additional tunnels and bridges scheduled for future phases.
By mid-August, the RTA completed a 2-kilometre widening project on Sheikh Zayed Road. This upgrade added a seventh lane for motorists traveling from Abu Dhabi toward the World Trade Centre Interchange, near the Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Metro Station. The expansion is intended to increase road capacity by 17% and reduce peak-hour journey times by up to 10%. This follows the recent opening of a 1,000-metre bridge at the World Trade Centre Roundabout designed to significantly decrease travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
