Dubočica Mountaineering Society places Leskovac flag on Balkan peaks

Members of the Dubočica Mountaineering Society from Leskovac have continued their four-year program, ‘The Flag of the City of Leskovac on the Highest Peaks of the Balkans,’ by reaching several major summits.

In August, a group of 11 climbers, including members from Sofia, reached Maglić, the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at 2,386 meters. This ascent followed a delay caused by unfavorable weather conditions.

On September 20, 16 climbers from the Dubočica and Morić societies ascended Kajmakčalan on Mount Nidže in Greece, which stands at approximately 2,525 meters. The group displayed the Leskovac city flag to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the battles fought in the area during World War I. The peak holds historical significance as a site where the Serbian army fought during the Salonica Front in 1916.

This year's achievements also include reaching Zla Kolata, the highest peak in Montenegro. Previous years of the program saw the group summiting Triglav in Slovenia and Veliki Korab on the border of North Macedonia and Albania. The initiative aims to promote healthy lifestyles, active tourism, and the cultural and natural heritage of the Balkan region.
