Balkan mountaineering expeditions

Overview

Various mountaineering societies in the Balkan region have conducted expeditions to major regional summits.

The Dubočica Mountaineering Society from Leskovac has been executing a four-year program titled ‘The Flag of the City of Leskovac on the Highest Peaks of the Balkans.’ Recent milestones include reaching Maglić in Bosnia and Herzegovina and ascending Kajmakčalan on Mount Nidže in Greece to commemorate the 110th anniversary of World War I battles. The group has also summited Zla Kolata in Montenegro, Triglav in Slovenia, and Veliki Korab on the North Macedonia-Albania border.

Additionally, the Prijedor-based Klekovača Mountaineering Society completed an expedition to Musala, the highest peak in the Balkans, located in Bulgaria’s Rila Mountains. The group of twenty-one members successfully climbed the summit twice in a single day.
