Young Croatian Musicians Perform at Dubrovnik Summer Games

Violinists Matej Mijalić (born 2000, Rijeka) and Marin Maras (born 1990, Dubrovnik), violist Marko Genero (born in Dubrovnik) and cellist Vid Veljak (born 1996) took the stage on Sunday in the atrium of Kneževa dvor as part of the music programme of the 77th Dubrovnik Summer Games. The quartet presented works by Mozart, Ligeti, Weber, Halvorsen and Grieg.

Mijalić studied at the Ivana Matetića Ronjgova Music School, continued in Vienna and at the Zagreb Academy of Music, winning numerous national and international competition prizes. Maras trained in Dubrovnik’s Luke Sorkočević Art School and later at the Zagreb Academy and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, performing as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe. Genero, also a Dubrovnik native, studied at the Luke Sorkočević Music School and the Zagreb Academy, becoming the youngest docent at the academy and a member of the renowned Zagreb Soloists. Veljak, a versatile young cellist, earned awards at the Antonio Janigro competition in Poreč and the Daleki akordi competition in Split, and is noted for his work in classical, contemporary and experimental repertoire.
