Dubrovnik to host inaugural World 4x4 Water Polo Championship
Dubrovnik and the Municipality of Župa dubrovačka are set to host the inaugural World 4x4 Water Polo Championship from August 31 to September 6, 2026. Organized under the auspices of World Aquatics, the tournament will feature 18 men's and 8 women's national teams competing in a new, high-energy format within the historic Old Port of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO-protected site.
To support the event, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County has signed a donation agreement of 50,000 euros. Infrastructure installation, including pontoons, changing rooms, and stands, is currently underway in the Port and Mlinje. The championship will also include approximately 15 veteran teams competing at the Gusar Water Polo Club pool.
Croatian national coaches Paulo Obradović and Morena Marinković have announced their respective team rosters. The event festivities will include a press conference and a tournament draw on August 30, followed by an All-Star match featuring prominent players such as Maro Joković and Nikša Dobud.
