Inaugural World Water Polo 4x4 Championships in Dubrovnik

Overview

Dubrovnik and the Municipality of Župa Dubrovačka are set to host the inaugural World Aquatics Water Polo 4x4 Open Championships from August 31 to September 6, 2026. The tournament utilizes a new, dynamic format designed for increased spectator engagement.

Competitions will take place in the Old City Port of Dubrovnik—a UNESCO-protected site—and at the Gusar Water Polo Club pool in Mlini. The event is expected to feature 26 national teams, comprising 18 men’s and 8 women’s teams, alongside approximately 15 veteran teams from five continents.

To support the event, the Dubrovnik-Neretva County has signed a donation agreement of 50,000 euros. Infrastructure installation is currently underway in the Port and Mlini, including the setup of pontoons, changing rooms, and spectator stands.

Croatian national coaches Paulo Obradović and Morena Marinković have announced their respective team rosters. Scheduled activities include a press conference and a tournament draw on August 30, followed by an All-Star match featuring prominent players such as Maro Joković and Nikša Dobud.
