Korçë shooting: Suspect arrested after killing former soldier

A fatal shooting in Korçë, Albania, has resulted in the death of 20-year-old Johan Zuko, a former soldier and former Skënderbeu football academy player. The victim was shot from behind with a Kalashnikov rifle while ascending the stairs of a residential building.

Police have identified the suspect as Kristjan Sterjo, a childhood friend of the victim. Investigations suggest the killing was the culmination of a long-standing conflict involving verbal disputes and alleged provocations, including claims regarding the harassment of the suspect's girlfriend and disputes over neighborhood influence.

Following the incident, Sterjo fled the scene, prompting an intensive manhunt involving RENEA elite forces and local police, who cordoned off areas including the city's cemeteries. Sterjo was eventually apprehended near his residence approximately six hours after the crime. Three other individuals were detained for questioning regarding their potential involvement in the preceding conflict.
