Dukat launches educational initiative to reduce food waste

Dukat has launched a new educational online quiz, ‘Are you feeding climate change?’, as part of its ‘Food is Not Thrown Away’ project. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of food waste and encourage more sustainable daily habits among citizens.

A national survey conducted in 2025 revealed that nearly two-thirds of Croatian citizens throw away food, with one million people doing so regularly. Despite food waste contributing to approximately 10% of global emissions, the research showed that only 5% of citizens recognize food waste as an ecological problem.

Elena Wolsperger Dolezil, Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Dukat, stated that fighting food waste requires the involvement of the entire society. The company, which has been a major food donor in the domestic food industry since 2015, also implements sustainable solutions such as selling products nearing their expiration date at discounted prices in its discount stores.
