Duri Station escalator malfunction injures 12 passengers
A technical malfunction occurred at Duri Station in West Jakarta on Saturday morning, October 3, 2026, around 07:45 WIB. An escalator leading to platform 5 suddenly reversed direction, causing passengers to lose their balance and collide with one another.
KAI Commuter confirmed that the incident was a mechanical malfunction rather than a structural collapse. A total of 12 passengers, including 10 adults and two children, sustained minor injuries. Following the incident, five individuals continued their journeys, five were referred to Duta Indah Hospital, and two remained under medical observation at the station's health post.
VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, issued an apology and stated that security personnel immediately assisted with evacuations. The escalator has been temporarily decommissioned, and technical teams are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.
